The final mixtape in his trilogy is a perfect ending. He’s more confident, he’s embraced it, but he’s still weak.
Echoes of Silence is arguably The Weeknd’s most fully formed album-oriented statement thus far.
It’s Tesfaye’s total commitment to his ghastly persona that makes Echoes Of Silence so entrancingly chilling.
It's a strong finish to Tesfaye's first trilogy, providing just enough closure to satisfy, and just enough mystery left to entice us back for the next round.
Echoes is a profound listen that, despite its veneer of cynicism, oozes pain and crisis.
It’s The Weeknd’s most concentrated effort to date and one that sets the bar inordinately high for that imminent debut album.
The ubiquity of the Weeknd has saturated their latest mixtape, and ultimately Echoes of Silence struggles under that ubiquity.
Disappointing as Echoes of Silence may be as a collection of songs, it nonetheless serves its purpose in giving the Weeknd’s triptych a suitably grim finale, and pushing the most extreme aspects of Tesfaye’s sound about as far as it can go.
Echoes of Silence is a complicated album, if not quite the equal of its predecessors. Where they were dynamic and fascinating, it’s tragic, exhausted and sometimes even beautiful.
While Echoes of Silence shows flashes of excellence, Tesfaye is caught like the Greek god Janus, looking backward and forward at the same time
Echoes Of Silence is an excellent ending to the mixtapes trilogy of The Weeknd. Here we continue the dark themes as well as the somber atmosphere that were presented in the previous mixtapes, bringing great versatility and experimentalism (especially with the vocals) in this project as well as lyrics that go deep into the soul of Abel but still leaving a bit of mystery.

Not exactly the ending I was hoping for, but still a damn solid way to close out this trilogy. EOS basically wraps up the themes of the previous 2 tapes in its own little tight package, while still delivering that pretty high quality level of haziness that made HOB so special. Granted, it’s not an all around success, personally I would’ve probably kicked that Juicy J track off of here, and the only real phenomenal track on here being “XO / The Host”. But still, ... read more
Echoes of Silence is my second time listening to the Weeknd project and god dammit this is a lot better than Dawn FM.
A lot smoother alternative rnb mixed with some cool trip-hop drums. The Weeknd's voice works also a lot better with great songwriting and charm that early 2010s alternative rnb had. The only thing that would be cut off this album is the Juicy J feature and maybe the first track cuz he sounds too much like a copycat of Michael Jackson.
Echoes of Silence is a cohesive project and it creates an atmosphere, it's definitely great for late nights however I feel like it's just boring and uninspired at times. His cover of Dirty Diana was quite underwhelming even though it was very similar to the original.
