The Irish Times
Here, May sounds completely at ease with both the musician and the woman she has become, and that acceptance brings a soulfulness to songs such as Diamonds and swoonsome lullaby Solace.

With 11 Past the Hour, May has crafted a generous, collaborative album that feels like she's lifting others up, just as they are lifting her.

Northern Transmissions
The eclectic mix of songs bring a mature feel to the pop album, but sprinkles of rock and folk music keep the music engaging.
’11 Past The Hour’ finds Imelda May consolidating her distinctive position within pop’s pantheon.
Classy balladeer with rock aspirations offers muddled stylistic mix.
American Songwriter
May’s new direction often feels generic, especially compared with her idiosyncratic earlier releases.
That’s not to disparage either the quality of the material, which works well enough in a bluesy rock way, or May’s impressive husky vocals that are suitable for this environment.

11 Past the Hour lacks the fire of her previous rockabilly records. It's not just that the old style is played faster with more gusto. May delivered the vocals with passion and enthusiasm. She doesn't seem to be having fun on her latest album.

The Arts Desk
Imelda May still emanates a husky sexiness, and is vocally in fine form, but the material here is a misstep into middle-aged blandness disguised as “classic rock”. The complaint is not that she’s moved on from other, preferable musical styles, just that what’s here is unworthy of her.

It's hard to accept when a favorite artist chooses such a different path than what drew you to them in the first place. I adored Imelda May's first few albums so much, not just because of her voice but because of the musicianship of her stellar band. Then....well it's obvious. The music is just run-of-the-mill pop vocal stuff now. Well-sung but largely unmemorable. And the thing I miss the most is the dynamics!
