‘Flora Fauna’ is proof that a woman can be many things. She can eat the earth and become it, or like an archer with a bow and arrow, she can throw heavy clumps of mud at the things that stand in her way.
The Line of Best Fit
No matter how left-field the compositions are, whether warming or breaking, there’s always a lot of heart in the music.
‘Flora Fauna”s expansive sonic textures don’t take away from her established brand of sound. Instead, they allow Billie to refine her palette and inject more flavour into her craft.
On ‘Flora Fauna’, Marten navigates a newfound confidence while examining what it takes to survive and thrive. It’s her most mature, vivid work yet – and would be impressive from an artist of any age.
The Skinny
Her most exploratory and assured record yet, Flora Fauna finds Billie Marten braver, wiser and fully in bloom.

Whilst Flora Fauna certainly has peaks and troughs, it is the sound of an artist solidifying herself, her identity and keenly gazing towards the future.

The Independent
There is a new sense of liberation that manifests in noodling beats and an openness to experimentation that has been absent from her past music. Marten’s songwriting feels more confident than ever.
While her voice is as gentle as ever, a wider sonic palette adds both brightness and depth.
The Forty-Five
The whispery vocals of Marten’s earlier records linger, but the writing feels more improvised and immediate, like a lively chat on the phone rather than a long, laboured diary entry.
The onus on ‘Flora Fauna’ is on Billie’s voice, in more ways than one.
'Flora Fauna' is a simple straight-forward indie pop album. Billie Marten has an interesting voice that serves her well, is it extraordinary? perhaps not, yet it's fine. Most of the songs on this album are ok, some are very good, and the rest is forgettable (still not bad). Is this a record that I'll keep listening again and again? nope, but it's fine to just leave it on shuffle every once in a while I guess.

Really enjoy this louder and more enthusiastic sound to Billie Marten. Amazing production in general with some unexpected choices in the first half. Lovely vocals, lyrics and melodies in general. I especially enjoy the spring and expected earthy vibes to this.
Faves: Creature of Mine, Human Replacement, Garden of Eden
Billie shows her new face. The music is louder but her voice still soft and beautiful. Favourite are: Creature of mine, Human Replacement and Heaven (some electronic).
