Spectrum Culture
Juliana Hatfield’s 19th solo album is one of her finest: an ideal marriage of catchy melody, musical experimentation and troubled lyricism.
Few pop records have captured the agitation of the early 2020s as well as this homespun project, which feels a bit like a beacon in the darkness.
Beats Per Minute

Blood is an undeniably fun album brimming with indie-pop sensibilities and anthemic energy that makes listeners want to sing along.

Under The Radar

Blood is a challenging album for challenging times. But its commentary, its auditory experimentation, and, despite the surrounding noise, its dedication to melody might be exactly what we need right now.

FLOOD Magazine

Her 17th collection of original solo material is an unashamed outpouring of the red stuff—the sonic equivalent to that elevator scene in Kubrick’s The Shining, albeit not quite as terrifying.

The whirligig of time has brought in revenges of a sort ... successfully concealing Black Flag-worthy spleen behind a comforting veneer of distorted guitars, sunny Mellotron and Carpenters-compatible melodies.

I have never heard of this artist before but the way this album sounds, I thought she was a new and up-coming indie rock artist. When in fact, she's been in the industry since the 90s! I think it's a testament to how fresh this record sounds to me. To top it all off, I somehow already know the words to every song even though it's my first time hearing them.
