CRITIC REVIEWS

AllMusic

The notions of conflict, turmoil, and regret are certainly well-worn staples of the genre, but with Sturm und Drang Lamb of God have accrued a significant amount of experience in all three, and have distilled those concepts into pure unfiltered adrenaline.

The Guardian
Lamb of God sound more focused than ever here, and thoroughly deserving of their status as one of metal’s biggest bands.

Exclaim!

VII: Sturm und Drang is the album that almost wasn't, but it's worth celebrating for the album that it is: another solid addition to the Lamb of God catalogue.

78
Pitchfork
By not trying to be overly interesting or involved, Lamb of God have made one of their most alluring albums in years.

Despite these slight missteps, VII is a fine addition to what is already a solid musical canon.

Slant Magazine

If career high-water marks Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament suggested they'd never run out of new ways to think inside the groove metal box, their holding pattern since suggests otherwise. VII: Sturm und Drang, their solid but unspectacular follow-up to 2012's Resolution, doesn't much change that.

A.V. Club

Although Lamb Of God’s move toward accessibility has been more gradual, when comparing new release VII: Sturm Und Drang to the band’s earlier material, the decision to exchange brutality for mainstream appeal is clear.

Easily the weakest LoG album to date. I really didn't like the song "Overlord" for the record.
