Comparing Ice Fleet to Kauan's past masterpieces lays a near-impossible task at Kauan's feet.  Ice Fleet is still a compelling, powerful, emotionally resonant listen, even if is not quite Kauan's best work to date.

In similar fashion to previous records, it takes a number of listens to truly grasp it, but it’s definitely worth the patience.

Not as intimate or emotionally stirring as its predecessor 'Kaiho' and more obviously traditional in its take on post rock...but saying all that, this delivers the desired combo of a creaky chilly atmosphere and epic sweep.

A wonderful display of post rock and metal, Kauan's Ice Fleet is beautiful and cold, atmospheric and harsh, and above all impressive. The combination of these genres, alongside brief moments of black metal-esque snarled growls and clean vocals interspersed throughout, create a captivating experience; one that envelops the listener in the blistering cold northern Russian winter amongst a fleet of ships. Highly recommended album.
