As with all of Lil Yachty’s tapes to date, ‘Michigan Boy Boat’ is fast on ideas and entertainment. He remains very stylised, though – if you like that style, fine, but there are few concessions.
The mixtape struggles when the focus shifts to Yachty. He doesn’t have Mike’s commanding voice or Rio’s recklessness, the laid-back swag of Babyface Ray or the out-of-pocket insanity of YN Jay.
Rolling Stone

Yachty is a great ambassador for Michigan rap, but as Michigan Boy Boat illustrates, he’s far from the best practitioner of the style.

Although the off-counter flow can get monotonous at times ... Yachty’s embrace of the Michigan scene here come across as a daring way of reinventing his once-bubbly rap aesthetic.
The set employs the unique, off-beat flow preferred by the Michigan underground, which Yachty adopts well enough on tracks like "Concrete Goonies" and "Final Form."
The mixtape format may excuse the lack of sonic cohesion for the project, but it does not explain the faltering artistic direction.
The Needle Drop

Michigan Boy Boat falls short as a showcase for both Yachty and the Michigan talent he brought on board.

i've been listening to a bunch of michigan rap like this for the past few months, and it's safe to say lil yachty did them dirty. he put them over bland beats and took all the creativity out the studio. it's like he tried to prove that he's got michigan in his blood by using the blandest, run-of-the-mill, and overused style in detroit without putting his own spin on it. he also had no quality control on the rappers. use some judgement and stick with actual creative rappers and cut out boring ... read more
Hmmm, a new Lil Yachty tape, let’s see what he has in store for us!

Offbeat: The Album

It’s not like I’ve ever really enjoyed a Yachty project, and I’ve hated more of his projects than liked, but at least on Lil Boat he had a unique and refreshing approach and personality. On this, there is not much that is listenable, but even the parts that are have nothing to do with Yachty. This album is literally the same offbeat song copied and pasted 14 times with Yachty terribly rapping on them. It’s like he stripped himself of everything that ... read more
this websites first time listening to Detroit/Flint rappers?????????
it is easily one of the worst things I have ever heard.

What scares me the most is the people talking badly about this album as if the only problem was the "flow".

I dont even know what to say.
