The phrase “No rose is without a thorn” rings true for fewer artists more than Black Dresses; and typical for Black Dresses fashion, emotionally distressed lyrics and awkwardly lovable vocals meet explosive, visceral, and ear-splitting noise on what is possibly their most well-rounded release yet.

Regularly branded in the same wheelhouse as artists in the vein of 100 gecs and Dorian Electra, Black Dresses have made a name for themself as misfits in the music industry. As you follow ... read more

I've never listened to Black Dresses, but after this album i am fully sold on their hype. This is some of the most creative electro-industrial metal/rock I've heard in a long ass time, which is refreshing considering how the genre has been mostly stagnant in recent years. This is really a 2021 must listen and a requirement of you're a lover of abrasive industrial records.

Black Dresses are back, baby!

Black Dresses are a Canadian duo, consisting of Devi McCallion and Ada Rook. In just two years, between 2018 and 2020, they released four albums before disbanding due to harassment. The final of this set of 4 albums, Peaceful As Hell, was my favorite album of last year, and so, when they announced they had a “small gift” for fans on Valentine’s, my interest was naturally piqued. I spent a lot of time wondering what it would be, but my hype rose ... read more

I have been holding off on listening to this for a while, maybe because I was afraid of being disappointed? Oh no I was foolish for thinking such a thing.

Black Dresses somehow makes an amazing album that sounds nothing like their last. This album is even more dark. It’s louder, scarier, and more explosive. It gives up some form of catchiness to do this, but makes up for it in spades with the incredible quality in sound. Every song sounds great. Idk how they make so many glitchy sounds ... read more

OKAY HEAR ME OUT LOOK I AM O B S E S S E D PLEASE ITS A PROBLEM

Although not as catchy as their last album "Peaceful as Hell" their latest album brings in more thoughtfulness and care into this record in my opinion, as the band finally perfects their sound, making this one of the best albums of the decade.

Am i probably insane? Yes, but this record is just amazing after amazing song, making me want to come back to each one after every listen, I love this record already in the first ... read more

I gotta admit, this is not at all what I expected this Valentine's Day, but I am sooooo happy with it. After joining this site a few months ago, I learned more about Black Dresses, and I quickly fell in love with what I heard of them - of course this would be just shortly after they had disbanded. I was disappointed, but I enjoyed a lot of their solo / side projects that were still in existence ("separated from her twin" by Ada Rook is an incredible EP). This last Saturday, I saw that ... read more

If there was one word I could use to describe this album, it's awkward.

I really wanna get the appeal, and I really love the first track. But bulldozer is when I lost all interest. This album is so BORING. Heavy guitars and noises blaring with monotone singing on top. That's the whole album. Sure it's abrasive and shocking at first, but it fails to consistently carry that feeling. Instead of getting any intense feelings from this album I kinda just sat there, trying my hardest to vibe, but It ... read more

There is a wierd relationship between love and death, and I am not the first person to make note of this. French Philosopher
Georges Bataille wrote a book called Erotism which is pretty much this idea taken to it's highest degree. Love surrounds everything around us, I mean it's one of our basic human instincts right? It's just chemicals, and as a result of this necessity of love informs everything. It informs our social hierarchies, it informs our religions and maybe just maybe it informs our ... read more

Hey, anybody wanna form a band called "The Brown Doors"? Or maybe "The Yellow Couch"? No? Ok.

"Black Dresses" are a relatively new and self-thaught Canadian noise pop duo that started began their musical activity back in 2017 with a M.I.A. cover, following with four studio albums (including critically acclaimed "Peaceful as Hell"), with "Forever in Your Heart" being their fifth discography entry. Judging it by the cover, you already know what ... read more

Black Dresses has created some of the weirdest sounds through combining genres of electric, industrial rock, noise rock, and metal with such sweet and ear wrenching vocals that it almost doesn’t make sense. The now disbanded band has decided to remain broken ... read more

I was very heartbroken after their sudden breakup in mid-2020. It was understandable for sure, but still, losing one amazing band just like that is sad nonetheless. I listened to some of their earlier material for a while after their breakup, to the point where they were legit becoming one of my favourite (mostly) obscure bands... and then this happened.

Just 10 months later, we have yet another Black Dresses album; even though I'm still digesting the fucking insanity that was their last. And ... read more

Forever In Your Heart is another project by the electro-industrial duo Black Dresses and this is they another great one, with lots of creativity and heavy production that reminds me of death grips. And with beautiful and heavy vocall performance. And impressive how you can do something nice and ugly at the same time.

This album is so fucking vigorous. I wasn't the biggest fan of their last project, but this one is a step up from it in my opinion. It's really sad that this is their last though :( I'm in class rn so no review but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this project front to back.

Black Dresses are back, and they return just as hard-hitting as ever. "Forever In Your Heart" definitely takes a different direction to "Peaceful as Hell", an album I mixed feelings on. And, honestly, I prefer this. The project is adorned by superb production, very powerful vocal efforts and a brilliant consistency all round. That being said, what prevented me from truly loving this record was the lack of a resounding effect, an effect that truly lingered after the album's ... read more

Black Dresses' music is an intense blend of extremely good and extremely bad things. For the positives, they present a unique concoction of abrasive industrial influences with quirky noise pop, awesome chemistry between the musicians, and wide variety of solid creative decisions made throughout their discography. On the flipside, the singing is pitchy and often comes off as lazy, the production is sloppy as hell, and the mixing will ... read more

i like black dresses with synths. i also like black dresses with guitars :)

but real talk though, the band has had a pretty tumultuous past year, and they reflect that a lot in their music here. it's deeply introspective stuff, but they're also relatable as hell with it and i feel that in time, this is going to be the album that i think of when i think of black dresses. i love their more metal-influenced sound on forever in your heart, which is strange because i don't really like metal at ... read more
