The Curren$y vibes on some of these songs are cool to hear, it's a unique era of Q where he was planting the first seeds of success on a bigger, more mainstream level. The first three songs on the record definitely helped give him a real push, too. Tookie Knows is the most toxic, sinister sounds Q has ever hopped on, but it's just one of many in his arsenal. Q really hops on a myriad of sounds and styles with an army of features and producers to help him out here, and I think he translates ... read more

ScHoolboy Q takes his sound to a more official level on Habits & Contradictions. His rapping is a lot cleaner and makes sense. It kind of starts to fall apart towards the end, but overall a lot more memorable than his last project.

Each Black Hippy member dropped this year, and ScHoolboy Q did not disappoint. Q is so carefree on this project and almost every track is a banger (also Tookie Knows is fire and should be longer). The flute melodies on this album seriously fucking go off here, and Gangsta In Designer has one of my favourite beats of 2012 for sure.

What a surprise!! In no way do I doubt Q’s talents, having listened to and enjoyed his three latest releases prior to hearing this one, but I’m shocked that this album seems to have been almost entirely forgotten.

There’s an amazing selection of beats on display, each coming in harder than the last, and Q’s impactful flow keeps in him complete control. This is an incredible showcase of his talents, with a multitude of bangers, and great bars such as “Swallow ... read more

Q starts off amazing with Sacreligious, but never seems to reach that level again. Forgettable project, with only about 1/4 of the songs memorable.

For the begining of the 2010s Q was interesting figure that was starting to bubble within the rap world, though perhaps not on the level of his Top Dawg peers of Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock at the time, his second LP "Habits & Contradictions" can be viewed as the album that speer headed Q into gaining more recognition. Though there are some areas that needed improvement and Q's following releases of "Oxymoron" and "Blank Face LP" are his true highlights, this ... read more

All-time favorite and top 5 in college. This Tour LIVE with ASAP for his Live.Love.ASAP tour was THE live show of a lifetime. Q's mainstream breakthrough has too many great cuts to count.

Habits & Contradictions is the second studio album by TDE's ScHoolboy Q and signifies a firm step ahead compared to his merely OK debut outing Setbacks (2011). Habits & Contradictions marks the start of a great three-album run for ScHoolboy Q. This album somehow feels as Q's 'real' debut album. Habits & Contradictions did what Section.80 and Control System did for Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul respectively - it established ScHoolboy Q as one of TDE's big dogs. While not revolutionary ... read more

ScHoolboy Q shines on this LP developing a style that truly belongs to him

Habits' thematically is a pretty interesting take on Q's life. The production as a whole is rough and emphatic, giving Q the pockets to spit pure evil or even sometimes pure bliss. Sacrilegious and Blessed show how Q can shine even with more conscious lyricism while the singles off this introduced Q to the mainstream like he'd been a staple for years. I think this suffers due to it's length and with a bit of refining it could've been up there with Oxy or Blank Face.

Q's most consistent project. I don't love the project but it is a solid effort.

The beginning is pretty good, but after that it goes downhill.

This album starts off amazing. "Sacreligious", "There He Go", and "Hands on the Wheel" are three of the best songs on the album, but after that it pretty much goes downhill. Most of these songs sound pretty similar with weak features besides Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul.

Fav Songs: Sacreligious, There He Go, Hands On the Wheel, My Hatin Joint, Gangsta in Designer, Druggys Wit Hoes Again, Blessed

This project always confused me, but it makes sense when you consider the title. There's the lyrical songs with a good message, then there's the contradictions with all the gangster stuff he talks about. Sacrilegious, There He Go, Hands On The Wheel, Oxy Music, and My Homie are my favorite songs. Blessed is such a touching and sad song also. Cool concept and solid album.
