Consequence of Sound

It’s a stunning exploration of the Black experience. And although it’s the end of a trilogy, For My Mama is clearly just the beginning of Dixon is capable of.

Dixon's storytelling shines throughout this whole album. He not only has a compellingly verbose and, at times, boastful rapping style, but he also wields an impressive level of lyrical complexity.

Dixon is a complex lyricist. He indulges in dense references ... He’s a magnetic performer too, often sounding like he’s run out of steam just trying to keep up with his own challenging thoughts and lyrics.

For My Mama is introspective hip hop at its best, a string quartet away from baroque pop bedlam, but without distraction from a vital new lyricist at its centre.

Because it’s not clear-cut, and it becomes a messy conversation very fast.
