On Lout, The Horrors yet again prove that they are impossible to be pinned down, and it’s exciting to look forward to what they can achieve with another new sound.

DIY
Over 14 years and five studio albums, The Horrors have transformed themselves through numerous incarnations but never have they sounded quite so gnarly as they do on ‘Lout’.

Clash
Harkening back to the days of ‘Strange House’, but also moving forward, this industrial future for The Horrors is an interesting and welcoming one. It’s just a shame it’s only three tracks long. Full album please?

The Independent

The Horrors’ ability to keep churning out exciting new additions to their already expansive catalogue (years after anyone expects them to) is impressive in itself. But the idea of witnessing Lout live after the pandemic is finished with us? That’s just another reason to anticipate whatever else the group has in store for the roaring 2020s.

The Telegraph

The indie shape-shifters’ new music retreats from their recent commercial experiments to deliver their ‘nastiest’ music in years.

Beats Per Minute

Even though there are only three tracks here, and a total of approximately 12 minutes of music, Lout represents some of The Horrors’ most expressive, uninhibited, and memorable work.

Lout is a difficult EP to place. It’ll either entice long-standing fans with its heavier sound, fitting well with the band’s aesthetic, or alienate those who prefer the band’s early work.

If this is a taste of things to come then I'm all down for it. The Horrors can be a very interesting band and I'd expect a more rounded experience than the three tracks given here. Whiplash is very good.

Very messy and grungy, but the sound presented by "Lout" feels just so banal and already overused.

The last song I heard from The Horrors was Still Life, so you can imagine my shock when I first heard Lout. That being said, this is a pretty fun industrial/garage album, but I can't see myself returning to it.

FIRST LISTEN: This EP sounds incredible. Imagine Prodigy at their heaviest and if they’d decided to rip up their amps.
