I'd shelve this album as very loud and proggy, in a gojira way, while having the randomness of SOAD. Surprisingly, that doesn't result in a band that sounds like utter ass, or in the two sounds crashing to form incoherent crap, but a record that manages to honor its influences and sound cool, I also appreciate the hints of jazz that permeate the record, giving them Trepalium vibes. Overall, a pretty fun record, even if its outside my usual wheelhouse.
This album has been formally described as a combination of Dillinger Escape Plan, Faith No More, System of a Down, and Mr. Bungle. I hear solid Gojira, Maximum the Hormone, and Twelve Foot Ninja influences in here too. If any of that sounds remotely interesting, just give this album a go. This is an extremely refreshing take on experimental prog metal.
I could describe this album as a more progressive System of a Down project, but I would be underestimating them by just saying that. You can clearly hear a lot of influences, but it's also obvious that in between those same influences they have their own sound, which is a really fun and interesting one. Also, the excentric lyrics are a nice addition to their chaotic sound, even if they are a little bit too goofy at some points.
