Effortlessly combining afrobeats, afrojazz and afrosoul with a touch of contemporary hip-hop and a spot of reggae too, there’s enough about Tiggs to firmly set him apart from his peers. Make no mistake: this is a very exciting listen.


Aside from the ill-advised inclusion of Fly Em’ High, presumably intended as a bonus track, Blame It On The Youts is a strong collection from an artist with a lot of potential.

Tiggs’s mix of genres and African sounds driven by lush arrangements make for a thoroughly uplifting debut.


Whoever sees this, PLEASE TRY IT OUT!!! One of my favorite records of the year, not because of any sonic boundary-pushing, but just because of how dynamic and joyful it is to listen to. It also experiments with combining traditonal afrobeat genres with UK hip-hop, reggae, soul, r&b, and a bunch of other shit in a really cool and refreshing way. FIRST LISTEN: Summer’s come early with this one. Tiggs Da Author constructs a really enjoyable listening experience with sounds drawing from Wayne Smith dub, Kendrick Hip Hop, and Bruno Mars R&B.
