Compared to their early singles, the production on Grand National is tighter, the songwriting is stronger, and the performances are more incendiary than ever.
What an EP!
Just like I do for all my EP reviews, I’ll keep this as brief as this album’s material is. Groovy, catchy, and infectious post-punk seems to be the sound of the year, with Shame’s Drunk Tank Pink kicking the year off as the year's first truly “great” album and Squid dropping in less than a month, so it’s fitting that a band like Courting is debuting with what may go down as one of the greatest EPs of 2021. HOLY FUCK, this is one of my favorite EP listens I’ve ever had. Thank you @T_Alamos (the goat) for recommending me this. Courting is a band I’m familiar with, I’ve heard both of their albums but I never decided to listen to this EP and I was missing the fuck OUTTTT. This is post punk greatness, may I even add, at its peak. This really reminded me what I love so much about this genre. How have I not heard of these guys before??
The sound of this record is awesome, and even though it is pretty short, it packs a large amount of quality into that time. Every song sounds fully realized and complete. The riffs and vocals are superb on each one.
