Fire It Up showcases Cropper's joyous brand of grit & groove with swagger aplenty.

Classic Rock
Cropper considers this his first proper solo album since 1967. It’s sufficiently timeless to have been released the following year.
Spill Magazine
There’s plenty of fine R’n’B and soul music to enjoy. Don’t expect innovation – come on! – but do look for new recordings with a time-honored approach.

Fire It Up is a slow burner. The disappointment is that there's only one instrumental, albeit the funky Bush Hog is visited three times.

He remains a formidable guitarist, eschewing bluesy theatrics for sharp rhythms and jazzy fills. Too often, however, he's overshadowed by the phlegmatic vocals of pub rocker Roger C Reale.
American Songwriter
The lyrics, many about relationships going sour, seem hastily written and the bluesy/soulful/country blend often sounds generic.
