NME
Although not every track is a total slam dunk, AJ has here crafted another successful project whose streaming numbers, singles and infectious melodies will live on in memory – just like Michael Jordan’s infamous match.
80
Clash
A speedy and stimulating affair, ‘Flu Game’ is a place of pace, intensity, and variety. The ability to blend grime, drill, pop, garage, dancehall, and soul with such ease is consistent throughout.

The Independent
AJ’s still running this game on his terms. Fair play.

The Observer
Tracey’s output remains reassuringly hyperlocal, not diluting his flows but rather taking plenty of familiar UK specifics international.

The Sydney Morning Herald

Flu Game proves Tracey is anything but a bench-warmer – he’s a star.

80
Evening Standard
Taking inspiration from a legendary NBA match, the man from Ladbroke Grove is really going for the big time.
70
Gigwise
Its issues in concept and some of its tracks are outweighed by catchy choruses, smooth flow and mostly solid production.
60
The Arts Desk
There’s a lot here that offers interesting routes forward – but this is not the definitive album his talents suggest he's capable of.

Loud and Quiet

There are standouts here, but it’s not enough to stop Flu-Game straddling in mid-table mediocrity.

“Flu Game” sees UK Rapper AJ Tracey make a significant improvement on all fronts. This basketball-themed album has plenty of quotables and fun moments despite being relatively generic sounding.

I would say my biggest knock on it is that the production doesn’t really have any variation over the course of the record, it sounds basically the same throughout. That’s fine and all, I just think I would have liked to see AJ utilize his skills over some more interesting and ... read more

Flu Game isn’t amazing and isn’t anything revolutionary, but it’s pretty well executed for this style.

I had seen AJ Tracey’s name before, but I had never heard anything from him until “Anxious”, which was released as a single a few weeks before this came out and I really liked it. It immediately put him on my radar, and when I saw this was coming out I was pretty excited. Then add in the pretty notable list of features and the basketball theme and I was ... read more

Pretty solid, if not a little derivative, rap album. AJ Tracy has some noticeable swagger that helps carry some of the less engaging tracks.

AJ Tracey sounds so smooth when he's rapping, bringing a very different vibe from Slowthai earlier in the reviews. The production is faultless, most of the tracks have unique elements. Overall his good lines far outweigh the shockers, a bit annoying that he stole Bradford hip hop scene leader ZAYNs line about the BAFTAs. The amount of cultural capital that this has - so many links to the UK, mainly London and we all know he's from Ladbrooke Grove, is great. Boris and Rashford line is my ... read more
