Reprise is a bold late-career gem that legitimizes Moby's brand of electronic music by extracting the existing emotions that always dwelled beneath the digital soundscapes, revealing a heart that was always there but is now on full glorious display.

By drilling down to the compositional basics of his songs and divesting them of production flourishes, he makes them feel even more like aural wallpaper.

Reprise offers a pleasant, even graceful but ultimately insubstantial retrospective of an artist who can be fascinating when he’s not overly focused on his pleasant, insubstantial brand.

I've always been interested in Moby's work; "Play" is a fun, catchy record that has about five songs I play in repeat in my head and I hear people saying that his other outputs from the 90s are great, but I never got the real opportunity to listen to them. I see people complaining about his most recent records though, and after hearing this, I can whole-heartedly see why.

This is a reprisal of some of his most iconic and some classic songs are thrown into the mix two, and some songs ... read more

You can't say it reinvents itself, far from it, but it preserves the restlessness and knows how to apply it to a songbook that has aged well, possibly better than we could have expected some twenty years ago, when many of these melodies rang on television curtains. and blemishes from all skins.

As someone who has been relatively interested in his music he made in the 90s, some of the classics here are not perfectly reworked but it is still an interesting idea. My personal favorite from him will always be the industrial metal/punk Animal Rights but this is an interesting project.
