Mercury Rev are a band I've held dear for a very long time and as much as objectively I can see they have dabbled in some slightly ropey new age and AOR influences in recent years I still can't help but love their fantasy world.

'The Light in You' is more consistent than the two preceding releases (hurrah) and shows they're maybe, just maybe, edging closer to rediscovering that 'Deserter's Songs' spark again.
Fairly uninspiring
It’s been seven years since Mercury Rev’s last studio album, and it’s been seventeen since the release of Deserter’s Songs. The latter figure is the one that will probably mean the most to the public at large: after all, in the minds of many, that record represents the bands’ work at its very best, and in the intervening years the group have been largely dismissed on a broader scale.

Good, not great.
I love these guys and they have always put on amazing live shows, but this album is missing something. Sorry.
