Perturbator is back finally, with the king of darkwave delivering a set of songs I personally adore...but I have to be objective here. The cues taken from Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, etc are palpable and many of the tracks sound more like homages than original ideas. A haven for brooding, murky synths and early 80's post punk aesthetics. Tied together with a somewhat futuristic take on EBM. Lustful Sacraments, Excess and Messalina [x2] are all bangers that are have a good structure to them too. The rest is unfortunately a little forgettable but it doesn't stop it from being a sleeper pick to come out of this year.

Deep and evocative atmosphere is at the heart of Lustful Sacraments but, in spite of not really following a verse / chorus structure, the record is also awash with melody. Although the vocals are usually understated and subdued, various rich and virile synths often rise to the fore with powerful and haunting refrains. The guitars also steal the main focus for much of the time with their catchy reverb-drenched patterns.
