‘lamentations’, the second volume of ‘convocations’, presents a collection of works which transports one to a place where they face death and loss.

“lamentations one” starts off as a dreamy, reflective piece with chimes and serenity.

The second in the 5 part Convocations series that Sufjan Stevens is releasing over the course of roughly 2 months

I mentioned in my review for the first part that this collection will deal with a "universal" take on death and grief, after Stevens lost his father in late 2020. Instead of this being a very personal tale like Carrie & Lowell was with his, Stevens wants to sympathise more with everyone who also faced similar challenges and pains due to the mess that was 2020.

certainly a step up from meditations but I can't shake the feeling that I'm listening to royalty free motivational music. I enjoyed it a little.

Woah, this is wayyy better than Meditations!

Lamentations is a very interesting, complex, and emotion-filled progressive electronic release from the one and only Sufjan. Not gonna lie, I was expecting and am still expecting Convocations (The 5LP Compilation) to be mid. I dunno why, but Sufjan just out of the blue dropping a 5-part ambient album comes off as obnoxious.
