Born Against is a triumphant collection of tracks from one of modern music’s most gifted storytellers.

Beneath this veneer of mirth and melodrama, there’s an artist who gives full reign to intrigue and intellect in equal measure.

This is a pretty oddball album for my usual taste, but it's extremely impressive. "Murder at the Bingo Hall" absolutely fucks and is a must listen from this album. Beyond that, each of the 10 tracks on here are relatively impressive in their own right. This was definitely a cool experience I'll revisit for a while.


Amigo the Devil was a name I had never heard of until this year, and in a week of good albums I'm glad I did because he made the best one. His blues and folk saturated murder hymns glide right off of his startlingly proficient voice. It truly caught me off guard how powerful it was. The instrumentals set up his scenes of violence and despair perfectly, like Ennio Morricone decided to finally try acid.
