Pickpocket's Locket stands as some of Mercer's most urgent and terse work to date.

Tiny Mix Tapes

Pickpocket’s Locket might just be the best Frog Eyes album yet. Some might not consider it to be, especially coming after Paul’s Tomb: a Triumph and Carey’s Cold Spring, two fully developed, excellent records. However, I still feel I can say it without feeling dishonest.

Consequence of Sound

Pickpocket’s Locket is an exuberant triumph, exploding in full from the brilliant minds of Mercer and co.

The Line of Best Fit

The frenetic pace of Pickpocket’s Locket reflects just how turbulent his past couple of years have been.

Pickpocket's Locket is less furious than most of Frog Eyes' body of work, but if the music doesn't kick as hard the emotions are still there in abundance, and Carey Mercer's songs of love and hate remain compelling and rewarding stuff.

It's startling to realize Pickpocket’s Locket is the odd Carey Mercer release you can almost mellow out to. Once you delve deeper than the pleasant aesthetic, however, it's hard not to wish for a few more distinguishing moments to hold onto.
