Tired beats, lifeless vocal performances and messy structuring sadly mean that the newest Isaiah Rashad, 5 years in the waiting, is nothing but exceedingly forgettable.

Isaiah, you fool! How is this house supposed to burn if there isn’t any heat?!

'The House Is Burning' is Isaiah Rashad's second studio album, with the album being a return to his hometown, Tennessee, in terms of sounds, although I feel like the execution was way more messy than I was expecting, especially the first half which felt so sleepy and lacks life while the second half had the spark that I was looking for and saw in Isaiah's music, for the first time on the second single, 'Headshots (4r Da Locals)'. Isaiah makes some lovely vibe music, that soothes your mind and ... read more

Thank you Mr. Zay for reminding me how much Lil Uzi annoys me, I appreciate the follow-up I never asked for.

Half a decade after the sensational Sun's Tirade, Zay drops an album that I'm sure I won't understand or relate with off the first listen. Surprised? Don't be - Sun's Tirade and Cilvia Demo took me a few listens to really digest, so I assume it'll be similar here. Either way, he does provide what we expect, which is sensational beats, crooning half-singing/half-rapping, drugs, suicidal ... read more

In comparison with Zay's previous projects, 'The House is Burning' takes heavy influence from the sounds of Southern Hip-Hop (Trap mostly) and while there's some fantastic tracks throughout its runtime, it's not an album that was worth waiting five years for, as it easily has some of the weakest production, weakest perfromances, weakest ideas and overall weakest songs in his discography. It's worth sticking around for the first 6 songs but after that it's really a non starter that isn't worth ... read more

I'm a huge fan of Zay but I can't be biased. I dozed off several times, the tranquil
aesthetic on show here is poorly executed and sticks out like a sore thumb for the entire runtime, it's dated and baseless. Zay seems like a shadow of himself, ushering his listeners towards lackluster, half-baked concepts. The vocal inflections are pretentious and uninspired, he missed whatever target he'd locked on to in abysmal fashion, a handful of hooks were memorable but for an artist supposedly in his ... read more

I like this album, but it’s just pretty forgettable and can be kinda boring at times. Isaiah Rashad doesn’t have a super strong presence here and can sometimes sound lifeless. The production is nice though, and there are a lot of highlights, so I do think overall this is an enjoyable project however.

I basically feel the same way that I felt while listening to the Sun's Tirade. The 1st half is pretty good and has a couple notable highllights while the 2nd is mostly decent, but pretty inessential vibe music coasting on atmosphere and almost nothing else. It's not bad and I enjoyed it overall, but at this point I've decided that after Cilvia Demo Isaiah's brand of hazy, spaced-out tunes (that feel almost like interludes half of the time) just don't do a ton for me. Idk, it's probably because ... read more

Remember when I said this was a vibe?

Yeah, I’ve given this a third listen now and those vibe juices are all out now. All that’s left is the lifeless corpse of what could’ve been a well executed album. Listening to paint dry isn’t really what I’m looking for when I’m looking for a “vibe”, and Isaiah seems to be too far up in his head to take any constructive criticism whatsoever, so I doubt he’s gonna change his music into something ... read more

FUCK YEAH ZAY.

Isaiah Rashad comes back with the long awaited album, The House is Burning and honestly, it lived up to my expectations. The mix of the signature vibes we get from Zay as well as the mellow bangers are such a nice touch and remind me of why I love Zay's music in the first place. My only complaint would be that I wish Wat U Sed was replaced by 200 Freestyle/Warning but other than that, I am satisfied with what I got and u can bet your ass I will be bumping the fuck out of this ... read more

Being Isaiah Rashad's long-awaited comeback record after a five-year dry spell, there were certainly a lot of expectations leading up to the rapper's third album "The House Is Burning", a record that, in spite of the occasional banger, doesn't deliver its promises in a fashion that's all that interesting. Containing a hard-hitting first half inundated with strong production and seamless flows, the record, as it progresses, just loses a bit of its charm and impact, which makes it far ... read more

I don't actually dislike this album at all, there's a solid cohesive production sound and tight theming, though a lot of his fanbase aren't going to expand their mind or tastes to something more mainstream trap-oriented, despite it's mostly more melodic stuff. The only reason I'm disappointed is because he takes so damn long to make an album. For the same reason Kendrick's DAMN was disappointing. Rashad teases fans with all of these great collaborations but they may be the only ones we get for ... read more

The sleazy stoner rap of Isaiah Rashad never really stuck out to me before on his two highly beloved albums, Cilvia Demo and The Sun's Tirade. I liked the funky and jazzy qualities of the latter, but found it overall to be too sleepy across its 17 tracks, and i thought I'd have similar thoughts on The House is Burning, considering how split I was on the singles. And even if this isn't some complete new leaf for him, this is my favorite Isaiah album thus far. Like previously, I love the jazz ... read more

CAME OUT BUSSIN CAME OUT BUSSIN CAME OUT BUSSIN

After 5 years of dealing with addiction and depression, Isaiah delivers with his third album. After spending so much time with Cilvia Demo and The Sun's Tirade, Isaiah has become one of my favorite rappers over the years. I connected with his past albums because of Isaiah's introspective and poetic lyrics. I also always found his drunken flow to be very unique for a rapper in his lane. This project is a bit different, while it's still very much ... read more

Isaiah Rashad's presence in the rap game for me is a confusing one. Now on his third album, the relatively elusive rapper is said to have dried up the funds generated from 2016's The Sun's Tirade, and completely stopped recording for an extensive amount of time. Now, five years later, and it seems that the need to acquire some additional income, propelled by the relative hype surrounding any new TDE release, and Isaiah is back behind the microphone. Having never really listened to his previous ... read more

I like it! Whaddya want from me?

No, in all seriousness, though, I actually can't believe I went from hating "Wat U Sed?" to absolutely loving it in the context of the album. It feels like Isaiah and the beats he flows on create a cohesive, well-oiled unit. He just flows impeccably over Don't Shoot, and, yeah, taking out the beat would make the track worse, but also, I would be kinda bored if Isaiah just flowed a cappella with no beat. I guess, for some people, the vibe hits, and for ... read more
