It starts as a dark opera symphony but with a hope and a fear Keane brings from day zero « I hope all my days will be lit by your face ». On this album, Keane differentiates themselves from other pop-rock/post-Britpop bands such as Coldplay and The Killers. There is a darker sound that certainly has influences and is not afraid to show them, but on songs such as ' A Bad Dream' they are sounding fresh and new. A truly great album all the way through.
Anything but a sophomore slump.
Keane take their accomplished songwriting skills and apply it to a darker sound palette. The result: an instant standout of a pop rock release. Unfortunately, Keane tend to fall under the umbrella of being 'not quite as good as Coldplay', who are in turn 'not quite as good as Radiohead', so they are often overlooked in the realm of 00s artists, but this release should more than satisfy anyone looking for an exciting yet emotional pop rock release.
