After two painstaking years in the studio ... the group emerged with their masterpiece, which fulfilled all of the promise of their previous albums. If Isn't Anything was the Valentines' sonic blueprint, then Loveless saw those plans fleshed out, in the most literal sense.

Entertainment Weekly

Loveless ... is simply the most astounding-sounding album produced last year — a collage of voices, looping, and reverberated metallic guitars, and effects guaranteed to convince unprepared listeners their CD players are dying.

Tiny Mix Tapes
It’s weird, but beautiful, and takes you on a musical journey distinct from any other band... All in all, this record amounts to nothing less than a virtual reinvention of the guitar.
There's rarely a moment on Loveless that seems out of place or not in touch with the rest of the epic that Kevin Shields hoped to create. Every second is thought out, with nothing being forgotten.

Experimenting with the whole sound process, from controlled feedback to vocals buried deep in the mix, yet with a delicate precision that creates an absorbing record; one which not only stands the test of time, but transcends it.

Rolling Stone

Loveless oozes a sonic balm that first embraces and then softly pulverizes the frantic stress of life.

'Loveless' fires a silver-coated bullet into the future, daring all-comers to try and recreate its mixture of moods, feelings, emotion, styles and, yes, innovations.
I think something is wrong with my rock album
For my 100th review I wanted to talk about an album that means a lot me, and the obvious pick of the bunch is My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless', my favourite album of all time.

My history with this album started when I was around 14, I was in a bookstore and I saw one of those 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die books, and decided: "why not?". To give more context, at the time my musical taste was far from what it is today. I tended to avoid anything that wasn't classic rock like ... read more

The shoegaze has shoegazed me and now I love the shoegaze. This shoegaze just shoegazed my ears and now my ears have reached peak-shoegaze, just like this shoegaze. I will admit I shoegazed the shoegaze a bit too much, and the shoegaze temptations have taken over. I over-shoegazed on shoegaze, but that shoegaze problem doesn't matter. This shoegaze is magnum-opus-shoegaze, incredible! My shoegaze mind cannot shoegaze the fact that I shoegazed this a 99, when I originally shoegazed it an 100. ... read more
I really wanted to love this album, everyone else does so why can't I? I'm sorry in advance.

This was a drag of a listen. It wasn't bad, but in a way it was worse than bad, it was boring. OK LET ME EXPLAIN. I didn't dislike this album, I can appreciate it for sure, and I can see why people do like it, but god this was annoying. A lot of this album does sound the same, and that's coming from someone who loves Drone music, the issue here is it's all so uninteresting, nothing ever jumped out to ... read more
