Despite a few career standouts, FDB's hollowed production condemns Dugg's stories to a murky mediocrity.
Damn I kind of liked Young & Turnt 1 & 2 but this one was hard to make excuses for, either the incorporation of rock music, or the constant, piercing whistling into the mic that sounds like the audio of Rudolph the goddamn Red Nose Reindeer's claymation nose glowing, it honestly ruins many songs.
Was gonna review this since I enjoyed his Young & Turnt mixtapes quite a bit and have applauded him as an integral figure in bringing Detroit Rap to the mainstream.
However, I'll just go on a mini-rant now. It's so frustrating to know how regressive hip-hop's politics still are. I love a whole ton of genes but I was raised with hip-hop and hip-hop always has been my most-listened-to genre. That's why it's so fucking annoying to still have to deal with HOMOPHOBES in 2021. I love the album, so many great tracks such as Maybach, Judge Please, Rose Gold, and Free Merey. I was surprised extremely by Dugg's ability to create catchy hooks and switch his flow, nothing like your average Lil Baby signee. This album shows lots of potential it just gets a little inconsistent in the second half.
