"Ultra Blue" has own colours and some ethereal moments, some songs that could be in various lists about Hikki's best songs and best hooks, but fails about bring something new and exotic about her discography after Deep River that was fantastic. Hikki laid down to relax this time after she find a good comfort zone what is ok for now after consolided herself as one of the japanese music's monster.
This album is one of her most famous releases. Although there is nothing really new here, Utada Hikaru does a good job in finding a definitive sound for her, with a tracklist that if far more cohesive than in many of her past works, embracing a pop-oriented sound for the most part of the album. Most of the songs are forgettable, though, but there is a feeling of completion in the album that is evidenced by great songs such as Be My Last and Passion, that are two of the final songs.
