By the time he reaches repetitive closing track "Any Day Now," it's clear that Burnham has delivered a comedy classic as well as a snapshot of the time.

Like the soundtrack to any great musical, this collection of songs from Bo Burnham’s film Inside won’t replace the original work, but provides a way of experiencing the agony and ecstasy of the songs from another angle.

Yep. A serious contender for my Album of The Year is a comedy album.

After quickly gaining fame from viral YouTube videos of his musical comedy and then having a successful career as a standup comedian, integrating his music and visual components into his set, Bo Burnham retired from stand up comedy in 2016 after his internal struggle with art, comedy, performance, capitalism, depression, and existentialism lead to him having panic attacks on stage. After spending time to focus on his mental ... read more

Inside (the full special) has been incredibly important to me recently, and That Funny Feeling is genuinely my favorite song of the year so far. I obviously love the rest of the album/special as well, but specifically that one song always hits me so hard. I think hearing the songs just by themselves is a little less of an experience than the actual special, but hearing this as an album is still fantastic.

I mean I cried to the special 3 times so of course the soundtrack is great

In terms of standouts, How the World Works is genius and hilarious, Welcome to the Internet is irresistibly catchy and relevant, That Funny Feeling is pure p a i n, Shit is blunt yet weirdly gets stuck in your head, 30 is the peak definition of the fear of growing old. The whole Listen is just remarkable, and a staple of this tragic time.

The special is actually one of my favorite pieces of film so I mean... I have to at least give this a 90.

Edit: TikTok ruined some of these songs for me.

The ending of 'Goodbye' gives me actual goosebumps btw, fucking INSANE.

Bo Burnham states at the beginning of the album "Should I be joking at a time like this?" and the answer is definitely yes!

Inside, the show that marks the long-awaited return of the american comedian to comedy specials, is a set of observations about confinement and the portrait of an artist alone with his insecurities. Seeing the acclaim of this album on AOTY I had to see what it was about and I was surprised that it was a comedy album, so I waited for the right moment to watch the ... read more
