Despite some admirable crossovers into UK Drill and Hip House, 'HARAM!' is an absolute mess, a blatantly unfinished, boring, grating and flavourless mess. Even if we ignore the terrible vocal filter the songs at the core just suck because the production is utterly trite, colourless and bland.

Whether you like the material or not, or if the execution of the ideas are effective, you have to commend GoldLink for at least trying to make something different from the norm we hear in hip hop today. HARAM! is certainly muddled at various points, opting for an eclectic range of sounds that don't seem to find accordance with one another and likely would have benefitted from one concrete idea, but at least some of the disparate concepts come out with some suggestion of potential when digging ... read more

2nd best rap album titled "HARAM" released in 2021.

GoldLink tries to get grittier and more "raw" as he incorporates Grime/UK Hip Hop and Trap influences into his latest release. Predictably, GoldLink fails miserably and makes one of the most messy albums of the year.

I won't act as if I'm some HUGE GoldLink fan or anything, however, I did think he was on an admirable upward spiral after the release of the projects, "Diaspora" & "At What Cost". ... read more

Goldlink delivers again with HARAM!, drawing upon a global collection of genres and molding them into an album that feels still distinctly Goldlink. It bridges At What Cost and Diaspora into another musical chapter for Goldlink that seems to move at a breakneck speed.

I'm usually very generous with Goldlink album scores, since I've been with the dude since 2014, but this actually sounds like it could've been fire but was aborted halfway through and released unfinished. So, it's very fitting the album cover is a flaming fetus, it perfectly encapsulates the music.

HEY GOLDLINK! I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS BRO BUT THAT VOCAL FILTER SOUNDS LIKE ABSOLUTE SHIT. WHY DID YOU USE IT ON EVERY SINGLE TRACK?
Seriously though what's up with this? A lot of songs sound unfinished and he also only drops one verse on a majority of the tracks and has the features carry the rest. It seems pretty clear that he put very little effort into this. I don't know what he was thinking with this one... hopefully it's just a one time thing.

They really took that PinkPantheress ... read more

They don’t love your vocal filter like that. They don't love you like that. You thought you was 2D?

Can't believe this is the same dude who made one of the best albums of 2017. Fuck an abortion, this is a stillbirth - this shit was dead on arrival. That grainy, walkie-talkie effect on almost all of his verses clings to this album likes flies on horseshit. At least the flies are getting a substantial meal in that comparison. The only value here are the solid feature performances, cause, ... read more

There's something about the bizzare presentation and the disjointed production throughout the project that is admirable...
For one, I've never really found myself bumping a GoldLink project from front to back like this since After That We Didn't Talk. GoldLink is considered a local artist where I live, and i've sat through enough of his sets to make an assumption on his music. It's aight, tons of potential that isn't always fully reached with every project he drops. But for HARAM! he's managed ... read more

This album is messy, uncohesive, inexpensive sounding yet…..there’s something about it. I really enjoy how Goldlink is bridging into UK hip-hop with some really spaced-out, trippy beats that I haven’t heard on many other records. This is a style that isn’t near perfection, far from it, but it’s a breath of fresh air in a slowly stagnating field. The vocals are muddy in parts and the mixing is so cheap and stupid sounding but I just love it as a project ... read more

RCA Records rapper, GoldLink is someone who I've known of for some time, but never payed close attention to. For whatever reason though, I decided to listen to HARAM, give GoldLink a chance, but uh...what is this? This was awful, what is the selling point? The only admirable thing about this album are the kind of grimy drill beats, but the consistently terrible mixing ruins them. This barely feels finished, from the 5 dollar production value, to the full 15 songs all shoved into a 36 minute ... read more

Wow, I wasn't expecting this to get such a negative reaction. I do understand why though. The vocal filter or effect on GoldLink's voice can seem super annoying, but I actually like it at times. It does get really repetitive pretty fast, but at least there's a ton of features on this thing. Also, I love his ambition. He tried to incorporate some genres such as UK Drill and UK Hip-hop, and it actually fits it quite often. But when it comes down to it, the production is easily the best aspect of ... read more

Goldlink has decided to spice up his mediocrity and averageness, and decided to release absolute shit, the most i can say is that he has done something different than the rest of his discography. I prefer the dance hall goldlink bc at least I could take away a few songs

At least ‘At What Cost’ hadn’t some redeeming qualities, this doesn’t. When ‘At What Cost’ was bad it was still alright but this.... crickets. GoldLink can make a good beat, that’s not the problem but that vocal effect??? That and how some the tracks just end so abruptly are the main problems I have with it. I would have really liked Evian if it didn’t haven’t those problems.
Favourite track: none sorry ://

Honestly I didn't think was all that bad. Then again I'm someone who enjoys vocal filters and I though the fuzziness of GoldLink (who is someone whose voice I already am a fan of) to sound pretty cool and interesting. I think the fuzziness of the album also gives it a kind of charm(?) that personally keep me interested in the songs and I thought the beats were pretty fine too. Is it like one of the best albums this year? No not really and I can understand why others wouldn't be a fan. I ... read more

I think a quote I had from discord sums it up the best: "I really want to like Goldlink because he's from DC but he just raps with a fake accent on objectively cheap KAYTRANADA beats." Now take out the interesting beats part and you have this album.

You might need to mix your album Goldlink not 100% on it but it might make you sound better.

HARAM! is the 5th album from Washington D.C based rapper/singer Goldlink. I have enjoyed certain songs from Goldlink in the past for example tracks like Crew were absolute bangers back in the day but Goldlink has seen better days considering his career has hit a massive brick wall after his very disrespectful comments about Mac Miller. It is sad to see his downfall as an artist but lets be honest I ... read more

wow. I saw the low score and quickly went like "oh, this can't be this bad"... well, yeah it is, to the point that it made me find the Maroon 5's latest release actually decent compared to it

if Diaspora had its shortcomings, its not even near the poor decisions made on this one. Getting the obvious out the way: that vocal effect is shit and the difference between the features and Goldlink's vocals is just unbearably annoying. But it's not just that: HARAM is simply bad, from the ... read more
