For a fan of Angels & Airwaves, this album will probably blow your mind. As a casual fan like myself, even I can’t overlook the refined songwriting here. Its cohesive atmosphere is matched only by its densely packed, multi-faceted instrumentation.
Polished but with plenty of grit and light on ego, it’s the most relatable this band has ever been.
Big, bold and ambitious, it’s both a welcome return and a statement of intent.
The end result is not only an album that will delight diehard Tom DeLonge fans, but one that lovers of anthemic and occasionally experimental alt.rock will enjoy too.
There’s enough for fans to enjoy across ‘Lifeforms’, but it is not as lofty as it perhaps thinks itself to be.
While sonically, i think that this is a very neat project. I just don’t think that Tom Delonge’s voice has aged all too well. I think his weird vocal inflections suited his material with Blink-182 pretty well I just feel like as his voice matured he should have ditched them. Another issue is that the lyrics feel very inconsequential. One thing i’ll give this album credit for is that the songs are super catchy, Tom Delonge definitely knows how to write a good hook. Overall just ... read more
I remember being so stocked to AVA's next album in 2019, this one had a mess of a rollout, I mean, we got two singles in 2019 and the third in 2021, not only that but we got 6 singles of a 10 track album, yeah, this was confusing and a bit disappointing.
Even after the messy rollout I wasn't disappointed with the full album, but coming back to it today, it feels better without the anxiety and confusion of the time to be honest.
Lifeforms isn't the most concise record of their discography, but ... read more
Top 3 Angels and Airwaves album. I love the production, the songwriting, the instrumentals, it's just a top tier album. There were some stinkers on this album like No More Guns. It isn't because it's political, it's just that the instrumentals are boring, the songwriting is also boring, it's just a boring song. Even though I don't think Tom DeLonge was in his peak (that belongs to Neighborhoods, We Don't Need to Whisper, and I-Empire) this is the closest he has reached his peak in a ... read more
I feel like the score on this album is quite low overall. A lot of these songs are catchy and mature and showcase some of toms best song writing and singing in my opinion. It really is like a mature more alt blink sound.
Vinyl Review 3:
An fucking amazing return form AVA
As a fan of both Tom Delonge and blink-182, AVA was one of the bands i really liked, i liked to space-rock sound they were going for with Whisper and I-Empire, and this album delivered, tis pretty soild comeback album. The first 3 tracks just blew me away, "Timebomb" reminded me a bit of "The Adventure" from WDNtW, while "Euphoria" calls back to more punk agressive side of Tom's carrier finally ... read more
