Loud and Quiet
!!!’s love of early ’90s house shines through here, and the motifs of that time – wiry guitar licks, organic synths, bouncy drums – are lovingly applied throughout. This lends the music a comforting familiarity, but it’s done with a freshness and zest that avoids the nostalgia trap.

Drowned in Sound

As If is the album they’ve always hinted at, but never pulled off.

Exclaim!

On As If, !!! show that they've still got ideas, leaving listeners with one of the most enjoyable, if schizophrenic, dance albums of the year.

AllMusic

The funky, post-punky, always danceable !!! show no signs of slowing down on their sixth album, As If. If anything, they keep getting better with each release.

DIY
Here, the Californians - led by Nic Offer - move fully beyond the rather outdated punk-funk label to make a hugely invigorating and danceable party record.

Clash
So long as you don't necessarily expect some drastic change of course from !!!, 'As If' won't disappoint. This is what happens when 'Thr!!!er' fades out and someone has the good sense to suggest that they keep the party going on, and on, and on, until no-one has the energy to dance any more.

The 405

It's encouraging to hear them experimenting and constantly defying the people who try to shoehorn them into just one genre. But against Strange Weather, Isn't It? and THR!!!ER (which were both adventurous, but with precision and brilliance) it just isn't a consistent !!! album.

NME
While the rubbery sextet’s dancefloor workouts are deliciously bass heavy, parts of sixth album ‘As If’ find them ploughing into a rut.

Brash, wearyingly loud and very funky, As If certainly isn’t lacking in emphasis, but will likely disappoint if you’re searching for a little more.

Under The Radar
Given the band's track record, such inconsistency is to be expected. But when moments of class are peppered amidst humdrum album filler it only serves to amp up the frustration.

Consequence of Sound

As If is a dance record almost entirely packed with discotheque rhythms and hard pulsating downbeats. When !!! leans heavily on its dance sensibilities, the music’s scope is drastically limited, and it accomplishes significantly less.

Having left their punk adventures behind, they burst naked into disco because they simply love dancing.

It´s not even close to their best work, but the way they insist that we can, yes, just dance through their tunes is worth listening to "As If" without any expectations.

This team has potential equal to the band The Rapture, but they will bore us songs they played 10 years ago. Indeed, we find great songs on the album as "Every little bit counts" or butt dialbitter lemon, but with other works is worse.
