Tour de force might be too weighty a term for an album so seemingly effortless, but from its unhurried flow to its wealth of songs, Far In is a glorious showcase for all the aspects of Helado Negro's music.

Northern Transmissions

These are dance songs, love songs, dream songs. Anthems of our time, sung by a soul completely himself, but who takes from greats like Marvin Gaye and I’m sure his fair share of latinx greats.

Beats Per Minute

There’s a lot of comfort and warmth to Lange’s albums. He’s a beacon of hope in almost every instance, a rarity these days.

FLOOD Magazine

Usually on his own, the sotto voce and soulful Helado switches lanes on his first album for 4AD to welcome a larger musical ensemble, and a livelier palate of textured, layered sounds, rhythmic twitches, and lushly verdant vibes that go beyond.

The Guardian

Love is the common thread through Roberto Carlos Lange’s playful album, in which funk-tinged celebrations sparkle alongside his intimate synth-folk.

Slant Magazine

‘Far In’ highlights Helado Negro’s knack for constructing minimally psychedelic but seductively melodic soundscapes.

On Helado Negro’s Far In, Robert Carlos Lange uses electric piano, drums, and lush textures to craft boundless dreamscapes worth inhabiting.

The follow-up to 2019’s This Is How You Smile is mellower and breezier than its predecessor; it feels less like a tour of Roberto Carlos Lange’s psyche than an afternoon barbecue in his backyard.

Crack Magazine
This message, that love is the ultimate salvation, echoes throughout the album. And as life freewheels further into uncertainty, music that gives us a tinge of optimism is necessary to our survival, as is the love Lange sings about.
Loud and Quiet
In all, Helado Negro has created a record that suits all settings and listening experiences.

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Brown Fluorescence

Helado Negro has a talent to make easy listening music not just background noise. Negro has a beautifully soothing voice that you can hear on every track. His voice, though, is enhanced by the simple yet beautiful instrumentals. His guitar plays a big role on every track here but sounds especially wonderful in the more atmospheric tracks like Wake Up Tomorrow and Thank You For Forever. But the production become enhanced with ... read more
