Initially thought to be a purely pop-punk exercise, Lately reveals itself as something more moody and angsty, the cathartic outburst of a young artist letting off some steam in a crazy world where she has to navigate regular human emotions and relationship woes against a backdrop of fame and privilege.
It was a risky move, switching from conscious R&B star to grungy punk beau, but WILLOW has knocked all doubts out of the park – again.
As carefree as it is frustrated, as playful as it is temperamental, WILLOW’s lately I feel EVERYTHING is a straight up lively hit of jaded emo bangers that will have a new generation of listeners whipping their hair back and forth.
Her lyrics have a stream-of-consciousness style, as though she’s in the middle of composing a message to a friend or partner. The delight she takes in performing these songs is palpable.
Calm and collected when it needs to be but by no means lacking in heart and passion, this album is a fine collection of songs by an artist intent on forging her own path. It feels like there’s no stopping WILLOW’s rise.
It's inevitable that lately i feel EVERYTHING will be relentlessly compared to its influences and predecessors, but Willow manages to pay homage to the subculture while putting her own spin on it.
At just 26 minutes long, 'Lately I Feel Everything' is hardly a profound or even prolonged experience ... Overall though, hardly anything is forced and it all feels well presented and devilishly melodic.
Despite the awkward tracking, lately I feel EVERYTHING still feels like a major success. For an artist whose first single was an ode to headbanging, Willow feels more comfortable with herself than ever before while screaming about embracing imperfection and growth.
Lately I feel EVERYTHING is an extremely well-crafted foray into pop-punk.
Willow’s fourth solo album continues to unpack her lifelong struggles with the extremes of human emotion, using a trove of pop-rock stylings from nu-metal to pop-punk to somewhat mixed effect.
Willow achieves what so much of pop-punk has aspired to: catchy melodies that are easy to listen to, and even easier to wail along to.
For most of its runtime, Lately I Feel Everything is a significantly worse Sour, playing on the trends of pop-punk from the past two decades.
Willow's early 2000's rock experiment is the best call she ever did in her career. Not only the genre suits her voice so damn well, everything about this record exudes authenticity, Willow sounds confident and the production carries her all the way there, to that great point she's been looking for since her first album. Bringing Travis Barker to the table she delivered one of the best pop punk songs of the last 10 years with 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l', he's also on 3 other tracks (all ... read more
Willow’s transition into pop-punk isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty solid and has some really enjoyable moments.
Willow was not an artist that was really on my radar, but I heard the single “t r a s p a r e n t s o u l” with Travis Barker earlier this year and was really impressed. I thought it was a great pop-punk track with a great instrumental and catchy refrain. I thought Willow’s vocals were the weakest part, but it didn’t really take away from the ... read more
Self-titled album was recevied a big ovation by me, I think it was the album where she found herself. after that, I was lookin forward for her other outcomes and now here we are! I cant undertand why every pop artist wants to rock or punk thank u miley cyrus! it not fits to all of them, this is a redundant approach, you dont have to prove yourself like this. as a RB artist you were pretty enough. I think trying new genres shouldnt be accepted as a new way of becoming, she used to have a unique ... read more
