The Guardian

The London rapper’s melancholy third studio album may not be a genre game-changer, but his renewed focus results in sharp street portraiture.


A strong project from Fredo who shows how to be successful by sticking to your own sound. The production of this album is perfect with the choice of beats getting better as the album progresses.

The Independent

Independence Day is another push forward for Fredo – a mostly solid follow-up from a rapper continuing to hone his voice.

While Independence Day doesn’t shine in the same way as the more refined Money Can’t Buy Happiness, it shows a Fredo even hungrier, relentless and refusing to loosen his ties to the street.


The west London rapper returns to his roots but can’t match the highs of January’s ‘Money Can’t Buy Happiness’.

Compared to ‘Money Can’t Buy Happiness’, ‘Independence Day’ is certainly a weaker project, but Fredo still shows off his talents alongside good production. The songs have about the same quality ad the singles he dropped.
Instead of a conceptual, more substance focused project like his great album earlier this year. Independence Day is a collection of UK Trap bangers with simplistic beats and slick gangsta/ trapper punchlines and wordplay from Fredo. He kicks off the tape with catchy synth backed trap beats and smart, gangsta yet hurt tinged bars which prove Fredo is top 5 modern UK. Independence Day is by no means a bad project, however, its apparent lack of inspiration and introspection in comparison to Money Can’t Buy Happiness makes it slightly disappointing.
