It appears that someone finally put Alexis out - there's no hint of Dallas Green's HXC past here, in spirit or sound. The transition to a rootsy, bluesy sound is welcome, and he pulls it off (almost) entirely. "Map of the World" doesn't stick the landing, but every other track is worthy of inclusion on City and Colour's complete incursion into folk music. "Woman" is patient yet daring, and "Friends" is a pleasant ballad of cautious optimism. But the true highlight ... read more

If I Should Go Before You greatly benefits from the decision to steer the songs into a more blues-oriented direction and shows some of Dallas' strongest work to date.
