For those in a rut over the seemingly endless absence of Kendrick Lamar, you need look no further for boundlessly creative and irresistibly unique hip hop than GUMBO’!.
As its title suggests, GUMBO'! is a viscous and dreamy homage to various strains of southern hip hop whose charm is undeniable.
The genre-defying rapper’s third album pays tribute to the artists who helped shape his sound—and sounds like something else altogether.
This is Siifu in his bag, shaping rap music in his own image, contorting it until old proverbs feel fresh, bold, distinct.
Overall, the album reflects Siifu's desire for creative growth and the freedom to approach his music without restriction. And although GUMBO'! does move with some inconsistency, Siifu nevertheless delivers a dynamic approach to his craft.
It's like a trap rapper got pushed into a vat of acid and came out a swampy, deformed monster. Which I'm gonna clarify, is a compliment. Very murky, muddled, and mellowed listen, the few bangers on here never go on for too long to distract from the moody atmosphere. If you like weird rap shit, this one's for you.
Pink Siifu is one of the more interesting faces in modern underground hip-hop, coming from a unique place of experimentation and forward thinking ideas in a genre bursting at the seams with creativity as is. So much so that this has been a pretty highly anticipated release of ... read more
interesting blend of trap, neo-soul and jazz rap that's been submerged in this grimy acidic sound
GUMBO’! Is one of Siifu’s most exciting releases yet, this album is super abstract yet also very enjoyable, most of these songs are bangers, and it sounds like his influence where stuffed inside of a blender got thrown off a building and into some nuclear waste, and then into the sewer, and came out with Pink Siifu’s raw and amazing vocals. I enjoyed this one a lot, to put it simply, it’s a fun listen.
