It's like a trap rapper got pushed into a vat of acid and came out a swampy, deformed monster. Which I'm gonna clarify, is a compliment. Very murky, muddled, and mellowed listen, the few bangers on here never go on for too long to distract from the moody atmosphere. If you like weird rap shit, this one's for you.
Pink Siifu is one of the more interesting faces in modern underground hip-hop, coming from a unique place of experimentation and forward thinking ideas in a genre bursting at the seams with creativity as is. So much so that his 2020 album ended up being one of my favourite hip-hop albums of the year, with its noisy and industrial approach to sample based hip-hop woven throughout its politically charged and emotive concept. So much so that this has been a pretty highly anticipated release of ... read more
GUMBO is another strong set of tracks by the upcoming underground hip hop star, Pink Siify, filled with a dreamy, abstract mellow atmosphere and beats which works so well with the mellow soundscape and more introspective lyrics and although the tracklist is a bit too long most tracks don't overstay their welcome but some don't add much to the overall experience mainly some interludes but still a strong project.

Judging from the past Pink Siifu albums I’ve heard, this was the last this I’d thought I’d hear from him. I’ve never been blown away this much by a rapper’s versatility on an album before.
Pink Siifu is hands down one of the most versatile rappers of our generation, and it sucks on how this went under the radar for so many people.
I feel like with every new LP from Pink Siifu, he does something completely different and out of left field. You know what the entire album sounds like to me? This is just the Isaiah Rashad album but done WAY better. The vast amount of sounds that are on this project just make it a unique, chill, and charming experience the whole way through (with a ... read more
I had no idea what to expect going into this album. I’ve heard one or two Pink Siifu songs before this listen, both of them sent to me by the same friend who recommended this album to me. I like those two songs a decent amount, so I figured I’d try this one out. He has a knack for finding unusual hip-hop stuff I usually end up enjoying, after all.
The opening track fucked with my mind a little bit. I enjoyed how it sounded, even though the first half of the song I couldn’t ... read more
Pink Siifu has been one of the most intriguing voices in hip-hop over the past couple years. 2020's hardcore hip-hop/sound collage album Negro though, had great thematic focus but very little song structure, and then his Flysiifu collab later that year with Fly Anakin was far too one note to be engaging. Only a year later though, not only do I see Gumbo! as being a vast, vast improvement, but it's also one of the most interesting and cohesive rap albums of the year. As the title suggests, this ... read more
Was this worth the wait? Hell yeah
I love this project. He sounds so refined here, great collection of songs. I admire the personality, the versatility and the likeability
like a southern hip hop album if you left it at the bottom of a sewer to mutate for too long
The different strains of Southern hip hop, soul, and r&b that Pink Siifu fuses form a collage of interesting ideas and dynamics that is something quite remarkable for abstract hip hop. However, it suffers from a lack of cohesion and direction, and can often feel less than the sum of its parts.
The atmosphere of this album is so strange - like trudging through a thick, soupy haze in some kind of vivid dream. If you’re looking for bangers or the kind of songwriting that hits you in the face, this might not be your bag, but for those looking to get lost - searching for something to simply sink into… it doesn’t get much more immersive or creative than GUMBO’!
Catching up on albums before I forcefully join the Israeli Army - #48
One of the most interesting rap albums of the 2020s right here. It's abstract but not really, it's southern but not stylistically, it's trap but also boom bap, and it's jazz but also cloud. The merging of genres on this record are incredible, the features are crazy, and Pink Siifu spits some amazing ass bars. Enjoyed it so much, I highly recommend any rap fan to listen to GUMBO'!!

Some of the absolute best hip hop genre fusions you might find. This album moves from soulful jazz rap to trippy cloud rap so fucking effortlessly and cohesively it's insane
This album is an incredible meld of southern hip hop, cloud rap, funky jazz rap and contemporary pop rap that hella reminded me of Kendrick Lamar and Big Krit at points, which can only be a good thing
Some songs come off too mellow for their own good, but the catchy instrumentals, flows and production as well as the giant list of collaborators on this album more than make up for any slightly boring moments here and there

I never really got GUMBO'!. It's sort of as jazzy, cloudy, and abstract as ensley is, but Pink Siifu isn't the main focus anymore and the production isn't as other-worldly. I'm glad more people appreciate Pink Siifu because of this project, and seeing him in many top 2021 lists is fantastic, but I guess it didn't hit the same for me. Certain songs are pretty damn solid, but the whole album feels long, inconsistent, and not as memorable as ensley, which is rich I know since ensley is the much ... read more
this was amazing, i’d have to say that Living Proof (Family) through BRAVO’! was one of the best track runs i’ve heard this year. Siifu has an unmatched talent when it comes to innovating the sound of hip-hop and this LP proves that his creativity continues to push it to its limits. this also feels like his most personal record… similar to how Vince Staples’ self titled feels more like an album made for himself.
Gumbo is more of a vibe than an album. Bits and pieces of flows artfully decorate avant guard trap beats. You can pick out regional flows but it's not the focus of the songs.
Following his collabs with Fly Anakin, Pink Siifu brings us a solo project that is equal parts sinister and comforting. I'm less of a fan of the trap elements of this album and prefer the more low-key moments in the middle of the album produced by familiar names, such as DJ Harrison, Ahwlee, The Alchemist and even Siifu himself. Like his past work, I appreciate him using his platform to promote smaller artists, alongside established underground names like Liv.e and Maxo.

Enjoyable and pretty wild kaleidoscope of southern and experimental hip-hop. Feels a little too thrown together and almost nondescript in some places, but I still very much dig.

Last year rappers Pink Siifu & Fly Anakin joined forces to take us on a little dank collaborative ride on LfySiifu’s and even offered up another toke on the $mokebreak EP earlier this, but now Pink Siifu comes through with his a solo offering with GUMBO’!. Just like the stew it references, this project gives us a little bit of everything, from the bangers “Roscoe’!” and “Big Ole”, the experimental Playboi Carti leanings of ... read more
