Bitch... WHAT?!?! hahahahaha I wish y'all could see the slightly-drunken-stupid smile on my face right now. I kid you not, this is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Very intricate compositions but a bit too heavily orchestrated for me. I respect it as their most complex yet and it will be rewarding continuing to unbox it all upon subsequent listens; however, I'd have just as well enjoyed something more stripped down, less busy or frantic.

BADBADNOTGOOD is a new favourite of mine; recently diving into their previous releases has uncovered some incredible jazz fusion that takes it easy on the often insular composition work jazz can take, incorporating electronic, hip-hop and pop elements tastefully. Their 2017 record IV is easily their most realised work, delighting with flavourful blends of all manner of different ideals. Given the group's proliferance for experimentation amongst brass instrumentation then, and Talk Memory is a ... read more

This has officially dethroned Promises as my favorite jazz album of the year. This has got to be their most varied piece of work to date in terms of instrumentation. It feels completely unique to their discography with grandiose jazz orchestration that booms with emotion and complexity. It's as if they are trying to speaking to the listener's soul with each song. Despite the weird structure of the album, BADBADNOTGOOD produces an album that is indeed GOODGOODNOTBAD.

With this LP, BADBADNOTGOOD once again cement themselves as masters of their craft. The ability that these wordless compositions have to build an atmosphere and weave stories is amazing. The final experience is truly like sifting through your own memories.

-----------

The record begins with Signal from the Noise, a beginning highlight that brings to mind epic tales of deep-sea exploration. At first, it feels like you’re descending into the depths of the ocean, surrounded by darkness ... read more

Right up from the singles you could tell this was going to be good, come to think of it their name acts as some sort of constructive criticism for their own music, they pretty much ensure that they top their previous album every single time

‘Talk Memory’ opens with “Signal From The Noise,” which fits its title perfectly by taking the form of a foreign entity, topping off its alien fluctuations with excellent progression and instrumentation. “Unfolding (Momentum 73)” is built upon a set of uniquely enthralling drum patterns, with a sax performance that’s equally versatile in its execution. This invigorating percussion continues on “City of Mirrors,” but this time comes paired ... read more

Album: Talk Memory
Artist: BADBADNOTGOOD
Genre: Jazz Fusion

Talk Memory starts with a 9 minute track “Signal from the Noise” that isn’t boring but I wasn’t a fan of the low quality drums that managed to draw attention in the middle of the song. I found the best parts of this song to be the soft parts at the beginning and end of it. Unlike the intro, “Unfolding” didn’t have one moment I hated and it’s all thanks to the exciting riff that ... read more

A very solid take on fusion, with a Return To Forever vibe and with great performances overall.
Pretty cohesive, the flow of the album is smooth and the themes follow each other well.
Highlight was drumming and the airy production, almost dreamy and on point with the tracklist and the album title.
Nice.

The best moments from BBNG latest project comes especially on those tracks where the drums are one of their main focuses, seen on the brilliance of Signal from the Noise and City of Mirrors, as well as in its perfect symbiosis with the guitars of Beside April. And while the frantic brass instrumentation might take its toll on the second half of the project, Talk Memory still provides some of the year's best pieces of jazz.

GOODGOODNOTBAD. Arthur Verocai is a living brazilian legend yet underappreciated here in Brazil. It's so nice to see a band from outside having this much inspiration from his work. Alone it would be pretty good, with Verocai it sounds even more better.

this was an amazing comeback

BADBADNOTGOOD released their 6th LP today and honestly it’s one of the better albums of the year. first of all, the 9 minute intro was impeccable. it was a more energetic, prolonged opening which kinda gave the listener a feeling of satisfaction knowing that they could have a great balance between energetic tracks and calmer tracks. everything from there on out was just outstanding. i thoroughly enjoyed the use of the harp as well, especially at the end of ... read more

Interesante set de canciones orientadas al jazz más complejo que la banda haya presentado. Su siguiente disco debería ser el golpe definitivo de la banda, ya que gracias a este ultimo lanzamiento da a entender que están apuntando a una prometedora dirección musical

BadBadNotGood’s first album since “IV” is their boldest set of original material ever, by far. In their early days, they made a name for themselves covering Hip Hop tunes. And at the time, there was nothing wrong with the small amount of original material they put out. Hell, “III” and IV” have TONS of great original material. But “Talk Memory” is by far, their biggest artistic statement. Saluting Jazz’s past, grabbing hold of a ... read more

One of the best albums of the year comes in the form of BADBADNOTGOOD’s most complex jazz album to date. A thrill ride of emotion from start to finish.

The opener blew me away on first listen and continues to do so on subsequent listens. The lofi mix isn’t overbearing and plays nicely into the vibe of the record. The entirety of the middle, from tracks two to seven, just pure jazz complexity with highs and lows that may sound chaotic but are very cleanly and orderly composed and ... read more
