Dawn Fm is a satisfying sequel to Afters Hours with its own particularity, without equaling it. For the occasion The Weeknd supports his achievements by transcribing it in a concept as ambitious as interesting, which confirms his status of master of the Synthpop mainstream.

Here we are, the famous introduction to announce the new year that we never get tired of. So I'll go straight to the point: happy new year to all, full of achievements and happiness. Finally, what could be better than to ... read more

I WILL COLLECT MY THOUGHTS SOON BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT IM SO GLAD TO BE A FAN OF THE WEEKND

Edit: alright, here’s the review:

While I may prefer After Hours just a little bit more, Dawn FM is the pop album I have always wanted from The Weeknd.

The Weeknd was the first artist whose music I fell in love with, and he is probably the most important artist to me and his music has been the soundtrack to so much of my life. I was 11 or 12 when I first heard The Weeknd, and at the time ... read more

Abel Tesfaye shows us why he's the biggest artist on planet earth for the fourth time in a row. And he hasn't put out anything that I didn't find remotely compelling at the very least. It's been eleven odd years at this point, and he's been on a steady vertical ascent since 2018.

First things first, but I really need to apologize for being irritating as fuck on the Dawn FM RYM comment section during the listening party, but hey, two people recognized that I was the same ubiquitous user from ... read more

The Weeknd delivers a really entertaining follow up to his previous album After Hours. I wasn't expecting much from this project and I honestly thought that it was gonna all be After Hours B-Sides but boy was I wrong. Abel did it again.

The production on here is TOP NOTCH and is truly some of the best I've heard on his work and really reminded me of like some of Michael Jackson's music. The vocals Abel does on here are incredible as well with some of his most unique singing on here with tons ... read more

This is the Weeknd at his absolute best. Every single song is a banger and there is no chill from the vibe. It's nearly an hour long and it feels too short, it's that incredible. This year started off to an incredible start, it's going to be incredibly difficult to top this masterpiece.

A solid effort from Abel. I am really happy with how this project started, and I felt value in following along with it until it fell apart in the second half.

(STARTING 2K22 REAL GOOD)

Dawn FM is the futuristic synthpop radio I always dreamt of hearing when I was younger. The fifth studio album from The Weeknd is cleaver in so many ways, and it will probably flourish with time. Channeling artists like Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown even.... I mean, he's actually doing what Bruno Mars thinks he is. There was never any complaint about production when it comes to Abel's projects, but it's so incredible to see his tracks evolving more ... read more

Songs for the deaf (alternate version)

After releasing an 80's techno music inspired album, abel tesfaye aka the weeknd waited for more than a year to release his next project called "dawn FM"
The concept and the storyline of the album is that you're listening to a radio channel around 4 or 5 a.m while driving down a highway (as you can hear an anouncement voiced by jim carrey that you're listening to a radio channel called "dawn FM", storytelling programs and a song that ... read more

Dawn FM is an album that I have been sort of conflicted with over they past couple of days. On first listen, I was truly captivated, as it’s aesthetic and radio concept hooked me narratively, as I was wondering what paths Abel would go down as the listen went on. And with multiple registers, I’ve found to discover that with this album he MOSTLY sticks the landing, but there are still quite a few nitpicks to be had, mainly the ... read more

“Intense, graphic, sexy, euphoric, provocative, edgy, thought-provoking”, nothing can describe Dawn FM better than this passage from the track “Every Angel Is Terrifying”. After one of the greatest eras of music by a male artist in decades - with “After Hours” (2020) -, The Weeknd releases his fifth studio. No one could have imagined that Abel would go against what is expected of a Popstar, and it would have an uncommercial start, without Rollout, but with ... read more

Melhores faixas: "Take My Breath", "Sacrifice" ... read more

Ok so it's been about 24 hours since I watched the album premier live on Amazon Music's stream on Twitch, and I just listened to it on streaming for the first time. Unfortunately, my thoughts didn't really change despite hoping that I would like it more. As of now, my score remains the same at 72

I definitely like the album, it's just that after hearing the concept and seeing the features and producers, I expected something on the level of After Hours, but I guess it didn't happen. While this ... read more

At the dawn of a new year, pop’s darkest visionary Abel Tesfaye returns with ‘Dawn FM’, a record that not only comes at a surprisingly early moment but follows directly on from After Hours, posing the unavoidable moral question;

CAN THE WEEKND FINALLY SEE THE LIGHT?

There’s no need to introduce who musician The Weeknd is at this point – he’s everywhere. Instead I want to explore the CHARACTER that is The ... read more

Not even a full two years after his 2020 blockbuster “After Hours”, The Weeknd is back with a surprise release at the beginning of the year, setting 2022 off with an exciting start. A new album from Abel would always create a lot of buzz, but considering the new levels that he achieved on his last album that even a Weeknd skeptic like me couldn’t deny, it’s safe to say that a lot of high expectations and inevitable comparisons are coming out in full force. And I’ll ... read more

Well, this certainly came out of nowhere. I didn’t even realize that this was releasing until Thursday when I woke up to see The Weeknd's old age filter Instagram photo staring into my soul on the highly-anticipated page of this website. My first reaction was surprise. How long has it been since After Hours dropped? Wait, March 2020! My second reaction was even more surprised. It felt like just last month that After Hours came out! Hell, now that I think about it, maybe the cover ... read more

My brother delivered. The ONLY thing I don't agree with is the fact that he should've used Anime Abel for the cover. Other than that, Abel gave us a fire sequel to After Hours. I can already see the tracks that will be smash hits this year just based on my first listen of the album. We have an early AOTY contender.

First of all, I had immense fun while listening to this album. I could feel the groove, the waviness, everything was fresh as fuck and, of course, I was going crazy, not to mention ... read more

should’ve just waited until dawn to listen to this, wasn’t worth messing up my sleep schedule.
however, it’s not bad. just disappointing. there are some fucking bangers here in “Sacrifice”, “Out of Time” and I’d even argue “Less Than Zero” is a 10/10 song. However there are even more moments which are dull, commercial and leave a lot to be desired. Abel’s voice doesn’t sound as commanding and interesting as it can, ... read more

The Weeknd's newest release "Dawn FM" is definitely a new page in the revered artist's career. It shows him abandoning his whole drug-induced darker auras, which often find themselves in a club deep into the night, in exchange for a much more upbeat tempo, one that's kinder to a wider audience. Much like the theme of the project, Abel utilises this project to create a personal radio station for himself, one filled with all his favourite moods and tempos, perfect for any time he just ... read more

Even though the album has a bit more of a retro and even a little darker atmosphere and aesthetic, something I generally dont mind, I find the vintage 80s material it is pulling from is not complimentary. Some synth and guitar leads are more reminiscent of mediocre stadium band anthems like Journey or Van Halen. The further I get though, the less this feels like a modern unique take on the retro sound like After Hours and more of imitations of specific genres down to vocal patterns and ... read more

Very interesting follow-up album. Abel's vocals became even more sweet. Although the concept is somewhat exaggerated, it is much easier to appreciate than the previous work, and sometimes some sections provide unforgettable melodies.

Highlights : Out of Time, Sacrifice, Take My Breath or Here We Go… Again

once again, we've gotten nothing but quality production and spectacular singing from abel, setting a great trend of quality for his discography. however, this time around, the album feels like it was designed as an album. from "Take My Breath" having its' intro extended from the previous track (and also being the extended version) to details like interludes and outro jingles, this album has a much more refined concept than his past work. he's followed in tyler's (whom, coincidentally, ... read more

This is one of my first experiences with The Weeknd, having only listened to House of Balloons once before this on recommendation of a Twitter friend but I thought I’d give this a listen when I came out. There’s a lot to like and a lot of appeal in this album. The instrumentals, especially towards the beginning of the album, are very full and detailed. Abel’s singing more than holds up with all these powerful synths behind him. But, really I did not like that Tyler feature on ... read more
