At Cry Baby’s core, the singer unfurls a series of saccharine nursery rhymes that are truly, deeply unsettling. It rattles you with a painted smile.

Cry Baby shows that Martinez is admirably ambitious, but her insistence on sticking to the album's central idea leaves her contorting into uncomfortable positions.

I went to see Run the Jewels in 2015 and was the second person in line. The guy in front of me had a similar stature, another tall and skinny white kid with tattoos and a band tee. stupid and generic. although there are some clever lyrics and decent melodies, the theme of this LP is batshit retarded. focused on being a child and having childlike features gets old after 2 songs, and having actual counds from a sippy cup do NOT help your album be more "creative". a really cringy album

"Cry Baby" is a really great adolescent pop album. It's sincere, raw, sometimes funny, and transparent. Melanie Martinez is so creative and smart. She created a new whole world. An illusion of an enchanted world, only for children, when, in fact, it's a miserable world...
