My parents are both loyal gen x'ers so naturally I grew up with artists like Alanis on constant play. I've always admired Alanis' lyricism in general and how unhinged she is on "Jagged Little Pill". Some of my favorite lines ever written are from Alanis actually. She was barely older than me when she wrote a lot of the lyrics here. A solid collection of pop songs over-sharing in a way that reminds me of Joni Mitchell's Blue (first song is the same thing only 24 years later) and Carole King´s Tapestry ("Perfect" toys with plagiarism). It wouldn't be such a commercial success without appealing to women and men alike. Pop needs hooks and this has plenty.
Listening Jagged Little Pill almost 25 years after its release feels like listening a greatest hits compilation.
Missing the rage it fueled this album in Alanis Morissette latter work
When I decided I wanted to start listening to full albums, this was the first one that came up on the randomized list of suggestions I had accumulated. I listened to it, and I loved it. But looking back, it doesn't impress me or give me anything overly interesting to take with me. It's good, but not great by any means. On my recent listen, I tried desperately to give it all the credit I once had, but I just couldn't. Maybe I overplayed it. But It has lost lots of meaning.
