Sleigh Bells released the bulk of their material before I started listening to a new album almost daily, and because it’s hard for me to revisit older material due to my schedule I completely missed Sleigh Bells’s output until this album. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I decided to give this record a shot, but I was very impressed by their long awaited fifth album “Texis”.

The genre blending that Sleigh Bells executes on “Texis” is ... read more

The duo has mastered their blend of noise, electronic music and heavy rock in a way that comes together to make a creative cocktail of carnivorous, concussion-causing chaos. As soon as you settle into the album, opening track 'SWEET75' hits you with punchy electronic bass, a catchy chorus, double kick drum fills and distorted guitars, telling the listener to sit down and at least try to make themselves comfortable.

This. THIS is more like it. This is exactly what we needed. Now I can sleep in peace.
Straight fantastic from front to back with few skips, if any. This is the type of pop-rock/noise pop that we need more of nowadays. Also Locus Laced is one of the best songs of the year.

‘Justine Go Genesis’ brings back that ‘Treats’ hotness 😏 😅

Sometimes when the chugging guitars leave for an entire tune they can get a bit too close to run-of-the-mill pop, but otherwise this is a return to form.

Despite lacking a bit of heaviness unlike their previous albums, "Texis" makes up for it with well thought out songs rich in detail; and for the first time in their entire discography is where the voice of Alexis takes the show, making a very remarkable vocal performance, and that's not all, the production of the album sounds clean and well thought out, which in past albums like BR and KK the band had failed in one way or another.

It only remains to say that they did it again!!!, ... read more

The word that comes to mind when I'm listening to Sleigh Bells is deceptive. I've never had the pleasure of getting deeper into their work, though I've heard Treats many moons ago, and Texis definitely gives me some motivation to go back on that debut.

So why deceptive? Sleigh Bells ride that noise pop line very tightly, although the pop end is most definitely what they structure their songs around. Texis is exceptionally catchy, effectively hooky, and deliciously bubbly, but just as you ... read more

Another nice bounceback for the band! I like that Sleigh Bells continue to evolve their sound even if that's very slightly. The tunes on this one are fantastic, and while not every song is catchy to the core I will say it is produced greatly and a fun vibe. I do hope that if the duo moves forward they change their sound a little bit, but overall its a very solid project that packs a lot of punch.

A very fun slice of boisterous noise pop that we've come to expect from Sleigh Bells. The additional synth elements are a nice touch.

Standouts: SWEET75, An Acre Lost, Locust Laced, Knowing, Justine Go Genesis, Tennessee Tips, Rosary, Red Flag Flies, True Seekers, Hummingbird Bomb

I found Texis to be rather enjoyable, it stays quite at a similar level throughout the whole thing, not too many peaks or valleys for me. Sometimes the lyrics are pretty cheesy, but I can forgive that for the most part, especially as they aren't quite the focus. The overblown instrumentals and the vocals shine together, creating something that is both sinister and sweet

Texis

A few days ago, while hanging out on AOTY, I came across the mysterious cover art of 'Texis' that quickly caught my eye and I decided to give the New York duo a chance. When I listened to the first songs I was amazed by the voice of Alexis Krauss and her catchy melodies mixed perfectly with the dirty electric guitars of rock and the sounds of electropop to give us an interesting and solid album from their first song to their last.
It is a dark album where death is constantly talked about ... read more

Okay, so this is the only other Sleigh Bells record I've heard since Treats, and I have to say, it's a massive improvement in my opinion. While the production feels less inventive, it's a lot more refined and balanced with the vocals, which have improved significantly since that point, and we're getting actual songs! Sure, sometimes they feel familiar and melodically uninspired, but most of the time we're getting really catchy bops that make a much stronger impact than 11 years ago. Nice to see ... read more

Sleigh Bells are back with one of their best albums yet!

So for those of you who don't know, this is a noise-pop and slightly metal duo who broke through a decade ago and whose albums have been a bit hit-or-miss since then. Texis, however, is a nice return to what made them so likable in the beginning, with some noticeable changes as well.

To put it simply, I find a similar kind of appeal in Sleigh Bells to that of more extreme hyperpop: it's loud, chaotic, and an absolute mess, but it's a ... read more

In addition to a complex combination of musical genres, “Texis” has this blurry scenery attached to it. Still, there is a “central story”, told in two parts, in : “Locust Laced”(the first part) and “Justine Go Genesis”(the second part).

“Locust Laced” is the single where we get to know the main character, <<Justine>> (Alexis’ alter ego?), the front woman of a fictional local band. She literally hits a wall and ... ... read more

A combination of noise and pop that only works a few times, mostly on the back end of the tracklist.
