To put it simply, it’s a great rock album.
Her latest album proves that there’s simply no boxing her in – despite all the attempts by previous collaborators to keep her contained.
FLUX situates itself in and around the broad category of rock and its derivatives, but what it really does is encapsulate Poppy's desire to evolve through genres.
Flux is her way of engaging fans, both old and new, into a spellbinding take on modern day heavy music.
Flux is an exciting and multi-faceted work of art that dazzles and enchants our aural senses and shows just how impressive Poppy is as an artist in her own right. A musical force to take on should another album present itself anytime in the future, Poppy has defied and even somewhat surpassed all expectations with this latest release.
Flux manages to highlight to the forgotten influence women had on rock and pop in the 90s and smash the artificially constructed idea of Poppy as a pop-puppet.
Poppy is ready to leave her mark upon the world again with this hook-focused album that favours front-to-back consistency over constant mayhem and it makes you wonder what’s next.
Overall, it’s one of the strongest arguments for alt-rock’s continued relevance that I’ve heard all year.
One could also suggest Flux does something more important: it captures a 26-year-old reclaiming her career and stamping her status as a bona fide artist – all via a set of excellent songs.
The ever-changing Poppy once again switches her direction on Flux, but it’s difficult to say where she’s headed. And by the end of the album, the listener has to accept that that’s okay.
Music has always been just one aspect of the former YouTuber’s cryptic multimedia experience, but Flux makes it finally feel like the most important one.
Even though it's not as stylistically wild as prior efforts, Flux is a step forward for Poppy's songwriting and her ability to command a full band. No longer just the girl in the computer, she's become a fully realized human with this most authentic and earnest work.
Flux is a bit more of a mixed bag than Poppy's other releases in the rock lane.
Flux acts as a powerful shock wave. Poppy reinvents again her formula in a tribute to the Alternative Rock
Poppy is the kind of story you enjoy when you discover such a sin-guliar artist. For those of you who don't know her yet, Moriah Rose Pereira became Poppy, a viral YouTube artist before she started to make her mark in music. Poppy is the archetypal icon of our time, that is to say, ultra-versatile, taking advantage of new technologies and means of expression to make her a public figure of ... read more
Destrua o patrimônio público e privado, ataque templos, incendeie carros, apedreje ônibus e tente levar o caos aos nossos principais centros urbanos.
The album sounds good the majority part of the time.
Even being weird ass any other Poppy album, (after she became this metal artist) this is the most normal thing.
The last álbuns sounded or 100% pop or 100% death metal (in the same track). I like that sonority, but this one sounds less childish and more coherent.
There's not 50.000 things happening per second anymore, sounds more """"""chilling""""", and more listenable to who ... read more
Finished my First Listen. This album's a bit more laid back in terms of the heavy metal elements, it does work at times but other times it leaves mixed results with some songs not being as memorable as they could be. Otherwise it's decent with some great songs & songwriting.
Favs: Flux, So mean, Never find my place
Least Fav: On the level
Really enjoyable and charming album from Poppy. It stays consistent throughout it's entire runtime, while sprinkling some occasional alt rock-ish bangers. I think this style of music is when Poppy shines the most.
