Finally McGuinness partially delivered on all the hype surrounding what was to all accounts his prodigious talent. Here he manages to sufficiently rein in his apparent uncontrollable need to throw everything including the kitchen sink into every arrangement. The best tracks here are the electro-pop gems of ‘Sugarplum’ and ‘Lion’. His last album was superb. This is a bit of a let-down, with too many of the tracks sounding indistinguishable from the rest. 'Lion' is great, and 'Harlequinade' would have been too, were it not for the out-of-tune vocals.
