Michelle Branch's The Spirit Room is a pure object of the 2000s, softening 90s grit into simple, anthemic pop. I always return to this album, not only because it orchestrated the most devasting television break up (Forever Willow and Tara,) but because it acts as an interesting midpoint between the 90s rock of Liz Phair and the saccharine pop bliss of early 2000s Britney Spears.
