Mixmag
Snoop Dogg, André 3000, Mos Def and Skepta are all fans, with this assured debut proving why she's rated so highly. Better prepare that throne, then.

The 405

A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons is the most multifaceted and masterful contemporary feminist rap album of recent memory.

80
HipHopDX
Unable to be shaped by outside influences, Little Simz is at once an anomaly and a breath of fresh air in a largely stagnant day and age.
80
The Line of Best Fit
It’s not only a very solid debut, but it’s one with the power to break down and challenge the way things are done in the music industry.
80
Exclaim!
It seems like Little Simz is writing these songs to demarcate her own personal boundaries, but in doing so she is showing off her limitless potential.
80
NOW Magazine
Her willingness to look inward on dense verses with such focused intensity and technical ambition would be thrilling even if she were content to just stunt on her own wordplay.
80
Crack Magazine

A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons swells with attitude. At times her rhymes crawl while at others they sprint.

80
GIGsoup
The sparse, atmospheric beats elevate her work giving Simz a fresh and unique sound.
78
Pitchfork
There are almost no specific objects, no physical places, no set decoration whatsoever. It’s just curtains pulling back on a spotlight and Simz wrestling with her ambitions like Jacob with the angel, reaching no conclusions but activating something deep.
60
The Guardian
It’s a debut that leaves a feeling of an artist still working herself out. There’s time yet for that, though.
60
The Irish Times
Simz is still working out her rough edges and finding her way through the artistic jungle, but it will be well worth sticking with her for the duration.

Done with all of Taylor’s albums so it’s time to dive into Little Simz's album discography!

This is honestly a really impressive debut. Her flows are great, the beats are all fire, and her lyricism is super solid. It’s a really tight-knit record, both in its production and its runtime.

Let’s start with the production because the record sounds beautiful from this standpoint. Each track is sonically great, with tight beats, fantastic instrumentals, and a smooth blending ... read more

Little Simz's debut, A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons, is clear from the get go, what Little Simz wanted form a style and her message but yet she hasn't necessary completely found it but she manages to create an engaging, powerful record which is for a debut LP tight and very cohesive even if the last 2 songs don't stick in my mind as much, this is very impressive and show her clear direction to the sound which she later would accomplish.

Track Review

Persons 7.5/10.

So this is her debut album, huh? It's really good. Excluding her latest 3 albums, Dead Body might be one of my favourite songs by her. It just goes so hard. Yeah. Pretty great album. Still room to grow but a great indication of what's to come.

This album doesn't get the recognition it deserves because of Grey Area, SIMBI and NO THANK YOU but this album is actually really good has a lot of great idea's that were executed very well on this project and still even stand up and be on the same level as the three albums previously mentioned

On her debut album, Simbi Ajikawo, aka ‘Little Simz’, finds herself hungry, youthful, and determined to stand above her haters, disbelievers, and the fakers. Even at the start of her career she knows she’s got talent, and the tracks on this album let you know she’s not going to let anyone hold her back. While some songs may be having that naiveness of someone in there early 20’s, they preserve a moment in time for Simbi.

The album was released independently under ... read more
