The first song’s good, but it’s pretty much all downhill afterward. There’s nothing offensively bad here. “Hallelujah” is super cheesy and some lyrics throughout are lame, but other than that, this is just really average metalcore playing it aggravatingly safe.


Voyeurist is the ninth album from Underoath, and the first 2022 release that I've been looking forward to. It follows their recognizable post-hardcore/metalcore sound while adding some twists, like the inclusion of electronic and industrial elements, and the use of post-rock influences in almost every track. It also has some unexpected moments, like the Ghostemane featuring, that works surprisingly well. Chasing safety sometimes is not the best way.

Underoath is a giant band in this scene and have helped pave many paths in the Post-Hardcore/Metalcore way and it is extremely important to recognize that.
But not everything ages like wine.

In their new project, Underoath shows itself like most bands in this scene nowadays, generic and in a gigantic comfort zone.
