'Knees' is the lead single to 'By The Time I Get to Phoenix' and also serves as my first impression to Injury Reserve, really shocking me with how out of the world the track sounds. The vocals on the song are all over the place, using an extremely exhausted tone that just sounds so done with everything and drained from the realization that they can't grow anymore. secondly, i really enjoy this. the black midi sample and the off-kilter rhythms are very trippy and hazy, and i think for what they’re trying to do, it works very well. it’s like they’re falling into a daze of dangerous habits (i.e. drinking) and they’re too addicted to stop. this song is in a state of vulnerability; like one small tap to the glass will end up flooding the aquarium. soundscapes orbit around the ... read more
