I'm afraid that Donovan got worse with time. 'Barabajagal' is still psychedelic but in a different sense, the instrumentation kinda is when it throws some distorted guitars in there but Donovan's vocals and the overall rhythm are sort of rustic, folky. The first three songs are nice, I guess you could call them authentic, but after that, the album decreases its quality. Donovan returns with a more diverse change in sound, and direction without losing his sense of past self.
Nearing the end of his 6 album run of good albums which started from Sunshine Superman and ended with Barbajagal's follow up Open Road, Donovan continues with the more psyche rock with the title track though as with all of his albums of this time goes into the more folky direction on most of the tracks.
