There’s a fine line between experimental music that’s actually good and stuff that sounds like it’s trying too hard to be edgy. This is on that line, crossing it at certain points. I liked a few songs on here but other than that it didn’t stand out to me. Maybe I just haven’t unlocked this level of pretentious music taste yet.
Deconstructed club experimental electronica misunderstood camp masterpiece of the year yass
It’s interesting that Radiohead just looked back at their period during Kid/Amnesiac sessions because listening to i’m hole by London based artist aya is a bit like hearing them for the first time. I was in love with rock based Radiohead and that those albums were too big left turns for me and took time to get adjusted in before I could fall in love (which I now do), but no adjustment is needed to enjoy im hole, just time and an open mind. The first couple times listening through I ... read more
sounds like an avant-garde spoken word album and an album of deconstructed club bangers were haphazardly smashed together, i love it
This got me really excited when I started listening—but I was also glad when it finally ended.

Spastic and wild in a way that weirdly works for me, aya’s “im hole” keeps me on the edge of my seat like a horror movie where I’m waiting for the jump scare. Packed with big hip-hop beats and full of shocking shifts in tone and style, “im hole” is a wild journey that never goes where I’m expecting.
I'm usually into Deconstructed Club-adjacent works, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be doing much for me. The introduction is impeccable with how it sets up the album, but following it is just... generally boring tracks with maybe a small idea or two keeping it afloat.
Musically, there are some interesting ideas here, however I found the vocals too grating to be able to properly enjoy this.
Outside my comfort zone here. Came to this via pitchfork. Listened intently with headphones and got lost in Tailwind (like being inside a victorian clock on the set of Blade Runner), The Only Solution I have Is To Jump Higher, and Emley Lights. Enjoyed dis yacks too. However, without having the lyrics at hand I didn't have full access to what the album was about. My bad for not buying the full package. So some enjoyable sonic moments, but sometimes I got left out of this albums ultra-coolness.
